Function of the High-Pressure Fuel Rail

The high-pressure fuel rail stores and distributes pressurised fuel evenly to all injectors. In common-rail diesel systems, it maintains fuel at extremely high pressure (1,600+ bar), acting as an accumulator that dampens pressure pulses. A damaged fuel rail causes fuel leaks, pressure loss, poor engine performance, hard starting, and is a serious safety hazard.

Common Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

A generic OBD reader shows the 5-character code; the GWM system stores the 7-character extended form shown in brackets.

• P0192 [P019200] — Rail pressure sensor signal short-to-ground — output < 0.25 V KOEO
• P0193 [P019300] — Rail pressure sensor circuit open or short-to-power — output > 4.75 V KOEO
• P0191 [P019100] — Rail pressure sensor intermittent / range fault — ‘sensor is damaged’
• P1197 [P119700] — Rail pressure sensor feedback frozen — ‘sensor is damaged’
