Description

Function of the Camshaft Cover Gasket

The camshaft cover gasket (valve cover gasket) seals the joint between the valve cover and the cylinder head. It prevents engine oil from leaking out of the top of the engine where the camshaft and valvetrain operate. A worn gasket causes visible oil leaks down the side of the engine, a burning oil smell from oil dripping onto hot exhaust components, and can allow dirt to enter the valvetrain if the seal fails completely.
