The front timing cover protects the timing belt or chain, sprockets, tensioners, and guides from road debris, dirt, and moisture. It also contains seals to prevent oil leaks from the timing area. A damaged front timing cover or its gasket causes oil leaks and exposes critical timing components to contamination and damage.
