Description

Function of the Piston Rings

Piston rings form a critical seal between the piston and cylinder wall. The compression rings seal combustion pressure above the piston, while the oil control ring scrapes excess oil from the cylinder wall back to the sump. Together, they maintain compression for efficient combustion and prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber. Worn piston rings cause low compression, increased oil consumption, blue exhaust smoke, and reduced engine power.
