Description

Function of the Crankshaft Pulley

The crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) mounts to the front of the crankshaft and drives the accessory belts for the alternator, water pump, power steering, and AC. It also contains a harmonic damper that absorbs torsional vibrations from the crankshaft. A damaged crank pulley causes belt misalignment, engine vibration, belt noise, and can lead to accessory drive failure.
