Description
Function of the Starter Motor
The starter motor is a powerful electric motor that cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process when you turn the ignition key. It engages a small gear (bendix) with the flywheel ring gear, spinning the engine fast enough for ignition to occur. A failing starter causes slow cranking, clicking sounds without starting, intermittent no-start conditions, and grinding noises during starting.
