The fuel pump delivers fuel from the tank to the engine at the correct pressure and flow rate. Electric fuel pumps are typically located inside the fuel tank, submerged in fuel for cooling. A failing fuel pump causes sputtering at high speeds, loss of power under load, hard starting, engine surging, and eventually a no-start condition.
