Description
Function of the Brake Disc
The brake disc (rotor) provides the friction surface against which the brake pads clamp to slow and stop the vehicle. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the brake caliper to squeeze the pads against the spinning disc, converting kinetic energy into heat. Worn or warped brake discs cause vibration through the brake pedal, reduced stopping power, squealing or grinding noises, and increased stopping distances.
