Description
Function of the Dual Mass Flywheel
The dual mass flywheel (DMF) consists of two rotating masses connected by springs that absorb torsional vibrations from the engine. It provides smoother power delivery, quieter operation, and protects the gearbox from vibration damage. A worn DMF causes excessive vibration, rattling noise at idle, clutch judder, and difficulty shifting. DMFs should be replaced whenever the clutch is changed, as they are a wear item.
