MG 6 Ignition Switch Repair Kit (Electronic Insert Only)

This repair kit contains only the electronic internals of the MG 6 ignition switch. You keep your existing ignition switch housing and fit our new electronic insert inside it — restoring the switch to full working order at a fraction of the price of a complete unit.

What’s included: the electronic switching assembly that goes inside the housing.

What’s not included: the outer housing, the key/remote, or the steering column lock (ESCL).

If your housing is physically broken or the lock cylinder has been forced, you’ll need a complete unit instead.

Function of the Ignition Switch

The ignition switch is the electrical component behind the key cylinder that activates the vehicle’s electrical systems and the starter motor. It has positions for OFF, accessories, ignition on, and start.

When the electronics inside fail you’ll typically see:

• Intermittent starting — sometimes the car starts, sometimes it doesn’t
• Electrical accessories cutting out while driving (radio, dash, lights)
• Random stalling
• Complete no-start with no dashboard warning lights at all

How to Check if You Need This Kit

(No scan tool required)

Before ordering, run this quick 30-second test on your MG 6 to confirm the problem is the ignition switch and not the key.

1. Sit in the driver’s seat with the key/remote in your hand.
2. Insert or dock the key as you normally would.
3. Don’t press start yet — just watch the dashboard and try to turn the steering wheel.

Then match what you see to one of the two scenarios below.

✅ Scenario A — Your ignition switch has failed (this kit is what you need)

• The steering wheel still turns freely — it does not lock.
• No warning lights appear on the dashboard.
• The car shows no sign of waking up electrically when you dock the key.

❌ Scenario B — Your key has failed (this kit will NOT fix it)

• The steering wheel locks when you dock the key.
• Dashboard engine warning lights come on after a couple of seconds.
• The car wakes up electrically, but still won’t crank or start when you press start.
• You may see an “Engine Disabled” message.

If your symptoms match Scenario A, this repair kit will restore normal operation.
