Description
Function of the Control Arm
The control arm (wishbone) connects the wheel hub to the vehicle’s frame, allowing controlled up-and-down wheel movement while maintaining proper alignment. It locates the wheel precisely, controlling camber and caster angles that affect tyre wear and handling. A worn control arm bush causes clunking over bumps, wandering steering, uneven tyre wear, and poor handling. A bent arm affects wheel alignment and causes rapid tyre wear.
