Description
Function of the Surge Tank Cap
The surge tank (radiator) cap maintains the cooling system at the correct pressure, typically 0.9-1.4 bar above atmospheric. This raised pressure increases the boiling point of the coolant, preventing it from boiling over during normal operation. A faulty cap causes coolant loss, premature boiling, overheating, and can lead to head gasket failure from repeated overheating events.
