Description
Function of the Idle Air Control Stepper Motor
The idle air control (IAC) stepper motor controls the amount of air bypassing the throttle plate at idle. By adjusting this airflow, it maintains a stable idle speed under varying loads (AC on, power steering, lights). A faulty stepper motor causes erratic idle, stalling when coming to a stop, high idle, and surging at idle.
