Description
Function of the Intercooler
The intercooler cools the compressed air from the turbocharger before it enters the engine. Cooler air is denser, containing more oxygen molecules, which allows more fuel to be burned for greater power output. Cooling the charged air also reduces the risk of engine knock (detonation). A damaged or clogged intercooler causes reduced power, higher intake temperatures, increased risk of detonation, and poor fuel economy.
