Description
Function of the Fuel Pump Solenoid
The fuel pump solenoid controls fuel flow to or within the high-pressure fuel pump. It acts as an electronically controlled valve that the ECU uses to regulate fuel delivery based on engine demand. A faulty solenoid causes erratic fuel pressure, hard starting, stalling, poor performance, and can prevent the engine from running.
Common Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
A generic OBD reader shows the 5-character code; the GWM system stores the 7-character extended form shown in brackets.
- P0251 [P025100] — Fuel metering valve drive circuit — open
- P0253 [P025300] — Fuel metering valve drive circuit — short to ground
- P0254 [P025400] — Fuel metering valve drive circuit — short to power
- P0002 [P000200] — Fuel metering/volume regulator circuit — resistance high (range/performance)
