Description
Function of the Thermostat
The thermostat regulates engine temperature by controlling coolant flow between the engine and radiator. It stays closed when the engine is cold (allowing it to warm up quickly) and opens at the correct temperature to allow coolant circulation. A stuck-closed thermostat causes overheating. A stuck-open thermostat prevents the engine from reaching operating temperature, reducing efficiency, increasing fuel consumption, and preventing the heater from working properly.
