Description
Function of the Connecting Rod Bearings
Connecting rod bearings (big end bearings) sit between the connecting rod and the crankshaft journal. They allow the rod to rotate freely on the crankshaft while withstanding the enormous forces of combustion. A thin film of pressurised oil prevents metal-to-metal contact. Available in standard and oversize (+0.25, +0.50) to accommodate crankshaft regrinding. Worn rod bearings produce a knocking noise from the lower engine, low oil pressure, and risk catastrophic engine failure.
