Description
Function of the Exhaust Valve
The exhaust valve opens to allow burnt combustion gases to exit the cylinder after the power stroke. It must withstand extreme heat (up to 800°C) as hot exhaust gases flow past it with every cycle. Exhaust valves are made from special heat-resistant alloys. A burnt or damaged exhaust valve causes compression loss in that cylinder, misfires, rough running, power loss, and a ticking sound from the engine.
