Description
Function of the Flywheel Ring Gear
The flywheel ring gear is a toothed ring fitted to the outer edge of the flywheel. The starter motor’s bendix gear engages with these teeth to crank the engine for starting. Damaged or worn ring gear teeth cause grinding during starting, the starter spinning without engaging, and intermittent starting failure.
