Description
Function of the Crankshaft Signal Plate
The crankshaft sprocket signal plate (reluctor ring) works with the crankshaft position sensor to generate a precise signal for the ECU. Its machined teeth pass by the sensor as the crankshaft rotates, producing electrical pulses that indicate crankshaft speed and position. Damage or missing teeth on the signal plate cause erratic engine timing, misfires, stalling, and starting problems.
