Description
Function of the Starter Motor
The starter motor is a powerful electric motor that cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process when you turn the ignition key. It engages its pinion gear (bendix) with the flywheel ring gear, spinning the engine fast enough for ignition to occur. A failing starter causes slow cranking, a clicking sound without starting, intermittent no-start conditions, and grinding noises during starting. Fits the GW2.5 2.5 TCI and GW2.8 2.8 TCI diesel engines as used in the GWM Steed 3, GWM Steed 5 2.5 TCI, GWM Hover H3 2.5 TCI and GWM Hover H5 2.5 TCI. Note: the older 2.8 TC / TDI (4D28) engine fitted to the original Steed and Sailor uses a different starter — this unit does not fit those engines.
This starter motor has a 9-tooth pinion gear — count the teeth on your old unit’s bendix before ordering to confirm fitment.
