Function of the Steering Coupler

The steering coupler connects the steering column to the steering rack, transmitting rotational input from the steering wheel to the rack. It contains a flexible joint that accommodates slight misalignment and absorbs vibration. A worn coupler causes play in the steering wheel, clunking when turning, imprecise steering, and vibration through the steering column.
