Function of the Air Inlet Pipe

The air inlet pipe is the moulded rubber elbow that carries filtered air from the air-flow sensor on the air cleaner box down to the turbocharger inlet. The ribbed bellows section lets the engine rock on its mounts without pulling the joint apart, and the small side spigot takes the crankcase breather connection. Because it sits after the air-flow sensor, it has to be airtight: a split, a perished bellows or a loose clamp lets unmetered air and dust straight into the turbo, so the engine runs rough, hesitates under load, loses power and drinks more fuel, and the dust wears the compressor wheel and the bores. A whistling or sucking noise from the engine bay on boost, an oily collapsed elbow or a pipe that has gone hard and cracked at the ribs are the usual signs it is due. This pipe is the Steed shape and is not the Hover H3 or H5 2.5 TCI pipe, which is a different part. Fits the GW2.5 TCI 2.5 and GW2.8 TC and TCI 2.8 turbo diesel engines as used in the GWM Steed 3 (2.5 TCI, 2.8 TC and 2.8 TCI) and the GWM Steed 5 2.5 TCI.
