Description
Function of the Thrust Washers
Thrust washers control the end-float (axial movement) of the crankshaft within the engine block. They prevent the crankshaft from moving forwards or backwards while allowing it to spin freely. Excessive crankshaft end-float causes clutch problems, irregular engine vibration, and can damage the crankshaft thrust surfaces. Thrust washers are typically replaced during any engine rebuild or when excessive crankshaft play is detected.
