Function of the Timing Kit
The timing kit contains all the components needed to service the engine’s timing system — belt or chain, tensioner, idler pulleys, and often water pump and seals. The timing system synchronises the crankshaft and camshaft, ensuring valves open and close at exactly the right moment. Replacing all timing components together is critical, as a single worn part can cause the entire system to fail. Timing failure on interference engines causes catastrophic valve-to-piston contact.
