Description
Function of the Front Crankshaft Seal
The front crankshaft seal prevents oil from leaking at the front of the engine where the crankshaft connects to the timing components and crank pulley. A leaking front seal causes oil to contaminate the timing belt or chain, drip from the front of the engine, and can lead to timing belt slippage or failure. This seal should always be replaced during timing belt or chain service for preventive maintenance.
