Description
Function of the Brake Shoes
The brake shoes are the friction components inside the rear drum brakes of the MG 6, Rover 75, and MG ZT. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure from the wheel cylinder forces the shoes outward against the inner surface of the rotating brake drum, generating the friction that slows and stops the vehicle. Over time the friction lining wears down and must be replaced before it reaches the metal backing plate — metal-on-drum contact causes rapid drum damage, reduced braking performance, a grinding or scraping noise from the rear, and a pulling sensation under braking. Replacing worn brake shoes restores full rear braking performance and protects the drums from damage.
